17+ Greek Walnut Cake

The spiced walnut cake Preheat the oven to 350 °F, 180 °C, and grease the bottom and sides of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish . Beat the eggs and sugar together for a few minutes until thick and pale.

Beat your egg whites until stiff peaks form and gently fold this meringue into the batter. Place the mixture into a pre oiled 24cm baking tin or tray and cook in a 180 deg C oven for 40-45 mins. Ensure the cake is cooked by using the old “skewer method”.

Grease an 11 x 15-inch (26 x 36 cm) pan with butter and sprinkle some powdered melba toast or breadcrumbs at the bottom. Shake to spread evenly. Transfer the cake batter to the pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or insert a toothpick in the center of the cake to see if it comes out clean.

Turn the heat down to medium-low and simmer the syrup for 5 minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves.

Bake in center of oven for approximately 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Step 4. When your cake is done, remove it from the oven and gently poke holes in it, using a skewer or a sharp knife.

Feb 19, 2024Pre-heat the oven to 180°C / 360°F. Beat the egg yolks and half the sugar (½ cup) in a large mixing bowl until thick and pale (around 1-2 mins). 6 eggs, 1 cup caster sugar. Next, fold through the self raising flour, salt and ground walnuts, then add in the vanilla essence.
